Abstract The article describes the effect of electroslag remelting process of steel and alloy quality and properties. It brings in more details individual qualitative indexes being characterized for steels and alloys after the process of electroslag remelting. The article includes a brief information of the equipment installed in ZTS Metallurgia a.s., Dubnica nad Váhom and its production capabilities. This section covers also individual types of crystallizers, and their dimensions respectively, and thus the size range of electroslag remelted ingots. The next section describes the production process of thick-wall CrNiMoV tubes. The steel for production of mentioned tubes is manufactured by above mentioned equipment for electroslag remelting 10 VG-I1. The data include mechanical and plastic properties obtained (16 445) on the steel that has been cast to the crystallizer 550x550 mm. The entire article is worked out in an informative form and it is specified, first of all, for machine design engineers to inform them of possibilities to produce the steel using electroslag remelting processes.
