Abstract This article deals with the effect of heat treatment parameters upon the main material characteristics of austenitic manganese steels. The article covers also the evaluation of normalizing process effect upon final material properties in accordance with STN 422921.4 standard. The method of carbon steel casting normalizing was proposed to be used (utilized) to heat castings from manganese steel in order to burning - out the riser at temperature of 350°C to 400°C. There are three methods of heat treatment evaluated in this article for this purpose: No.1 - normalizing process at 860°C for 2.5 hours, air No.2 - normalizing process at 860°C for 2.5 horus, air + solution annealing at 1050°C for 2.5 hours, water No.3 - solution annealing at 1050°C for 2.5 hours, water Based on material analysis results we can say that method No.3 is the most optimum for given state of manganese steel when choosing from mentioned three normalizing processes. This state meets also requirements of material standard acc.to STN 422921.4. That is why we consider the utilization of normalizing for the heat of Mn steel castings in order to produce burning-in of gates and risers as non-conforming.
