Abstract The casting process has always been a major manufacturing method for aluminium based products, and parts have been using all the traditional casting processes. In addition to advances in manufacturing technology and the increased demands of the market, research and development efforts dedicated to aluminium alloys have played an important role in the dramatic growth in the use of these alloys. Recent advances in die casting technology, coupled with improvements in die casting materials, have made the die casting process the most commonly used method for producing aluminium alloy casting. The development of complementary new alloys, the optimisation of existing alloys, and the documentation of reliable properties data for these alloys are given in this article.
