Abstract In the process of metals and alloys smelting often occurs an excessive evaporation of compounds. The evaporation of metal depends on the following factors: kind of applied apparatus, temperature, bath composition and gaseous atmosphere. In the research were presented the results of kinetics of Zn evaporation from Cu-Zn alloys. The investigation were carried out in the temperature of 1373 and 1413K, CO, Ar and He atmosphere and following Zn contents in the alloys: 16,19; 20,61 and 25,54%. On the base of the obtained values of Zn mass transfer coefficients and evaporation rate constants the conclusion was made, that in the area of investigation the process of Zn evaporation from Cu-Zn alloy run under a diffusion control and was determined by the mass transport in the gaseous phase.
