Abstract The energy efficiency of the hot water distribution systems is not only affected by heat losses but also by other factors. This contribution points out the concrete amount of energy savings, calculated per 1 m of pipeline length in the insulated pipelines, in comparison to the uninsulated pipelines of small dimensions (DN 15 - DN 32) which are in the distribution networks. Using of numerical simulation in ANSYS_CFX is evident in the part dedicated to the analysis of heat exchange processes. In the last part, energy savings, which can be achieved by the interrupted operation of such systems, are calculated.
