LABORATORY PLASMA EQUIPMENT TO THE SEMI-CONTINUAL MATERIAL MELTING AND PROCESS
Abstract
Author deals with possibilities of increase of productivity of labour at preparation and investigation of properties of high-purity and structurally defined special materials.
On the example of equipment of laboratory by plasma furnace with horizontal mold, which produces continuously cast ingot, the cross section and length of which is not defined and it is thus impossible to produce material samples directly from it, there is proposed an equipment based on vertical mold, which enables production of continuously cast ingots with specific cross section. Continuously cast ingot of defined shape could be then immediately processed by heat treatment and other technological processes, such as forming, etc. The proposed equipment will enable also heating and heat treatment of supplied or freshly cast ingots. Equipment comprises plasma furnace with vertical mold, which is charged by adjusted continuously cast ingot from the existing plasma furnace with horizontal mold. Output of equipment is designed in such a way that it would be possible to use the existing technical background of plasma furnace with horizontal mold.
The used transformation model of production of a material specimen which includes the transformation of the input raw material in a loose form and a technologically treated semi-product at the transformation process output will ensure an optimised technical system, which is the aim of the research laboratory equipment development.
Mathematical modelling and simulation of the temperature field in a drawn continuously cast ingot made of materials characterized by a small temperature difference between the alloy solidus and liquidus result in a design of a vertical crystallizer with a cooling system which reliably leads away the heat from the overheated melt as well as its latent heat of solidification. The time of homogenization of temperature fields in continuously cast ingots of a definite length and the temperature characterizing it determine an integration of the plasma furnace technical system with a vertical crystallizer and e.g. a technical system of a resistance furnace, which will enable to modify the temperature field of continuously cast ingots in a controlled way.
The time of homogenization of temperature fields in continuously cast ingots and the time of their controlled modification condition the modular proposal of structural design of integrated technical system which will enable an independent heating or heat treatment of continuously cast ingots that were not drawn immediately and their transport and connecting to a further technical system enabling the material technological treatment applying e.g. forming.
