APPLICATION OF MECHANICAL ACTIVATION FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF THE PIGMENT ZnFe2O4 WITH THE SPINEL STRUCTURE
Abstract
The inorganic pigments can be prepared by help of several methods. However, at present time more and more experimental workplaces deal with searching of new methodologies of the preparation of the inorganic pigments. Basic goals of these experiments are to search, develop and test new methods of the preparation of the inorganic pigments with the aim to facilitate, improve or outdo the present methods. One of these experimental workplaces is also our department. Our department has the long-time tradition in the research of the inorganic pigments and this tradition is also connected with testing of new preparations.
This research is focused on the preparation of zincferrite ZnFe2O4 by using of mechanically activation. ZnO and FeO(OH) were used as starting raw materials. These starting raw materials were mechanically activated by the help of an intensive grinding with using of the planetary mill Pulverissete 5 (Fritsch, GmbH, Germany). The starting raw materials were grinded in this mill for time 0-90 minutes and 0-10 hours. The grinded samples were taken in 10 minutes or 1 hour intervals.
The main aim of this work was to determine an influence of the intensive grinding on the colour properties. All uncalcinaded and calcinated samples on temperatures 700, 800 and 900 °C were applied into the acrylate binder in a mass tone and in a weight ratio 1:1 and 1:4 with TiO2. The colour properties were measured by equipment of MiniScan MS/S (HunterLab, USA). The colour was evaluated in the CIE L*a*b* system with the colour difference ?ECIE*.
The thermal analysis was measured by equipment of STA 449/F Jupiter (Netzsch, Germany). The aim of this analysis was to study of the thermal behaviour of the mechanically activated mixtures. The structures of grinded samples were found out by X-ray-diffraction analysis by equipment of diffractometer D8 Advance (Bruker AXS, UK). Particle sizes distribution was determined by equipment of Mastersizer 2000/MU (Malvern, Instruments, UK). Next methods were also used, for example the determination of immunity in face of working of HCl and the scanning electron microscopy by using of the scanning electron microscope Tesla BS 340.
