PREDICTION OF CORROSION PROFILE OF REFRACTORIES BY FeO – SiO2 MELT
Abstract
This work is aimed at the effect of titanium bearing materials on thermal state in the hearth of blast furnace. With the purpose of the carbo-nitrides production, the raw materials with titanium content, which protects the lining of the blast furnace hearth against wear and in that way prolonging its working life, are added into the blast furnace.
The campaign life of a blast furnace depends greatly on the lifetime of hearth refractory lining. Hearth refractories are represented mainly by carbon bricks or carbon ramming mixtures. In the analyzed blast furnace is refractory wear monitored by four levels of termocouples. Once the critical value of temperature is crossed, necessary precautions must by done e.g. charging of titanium-bearing materials in order to create a protection layer of titanium carbonitrides.
The titanium technology of blast furnace hearth protection is the best way to protect the temperature resistant furnace hearth material and to extend its working life. In any case, by an excessive use of titanium, operation problems, connected with an increase of viscosity in slag and metal, with regards to the pig iron price, as well as to the coke consumption, take place.
For the efficiency of the technology it is advisable, therefore, to thoroughly consider the factors such as the amount and the type of titanium bearing material, its price, the technology of charging the material into the furnace, optimalization of the material amount so that any operation problems, such as an increase in the coke consumption or problems with salamander and problems in the steel plant, do not occur.
