APPLICATION OF UNIQUANT AND QUANTAS STANDARDLESS PROGRAMS IN THE X-RAY SPECTROMETRIC ANALYSES OF MATERIALS FROM THE METALLURGICAL PRODUCTION
Abstract
Various instruments are used for more rapid and operational control analysis of materials from their production in metallurgical factories. X-ray fluorescence spectrometer is one of the most efficient tools for refractory material analyses on bases of iron, silicon, aluminum, calcium, magnesium oxides, and metals, as well. Possibility of sample component analysis in the range from ppm to tens of percents in various matrices, as well as non- conductive materials, is one of the unquestionable advantages of X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. X-ray instruments are well equipped with computer software that processes data from the instrument very quickly and transforms them to desired final quantity (e.g. ppm, %). Besides multivariable regression methods that are common part of every X-ray spectrometer, the standardless method software may be utilized, for example software UniQuant, QuantAs, etc. Miscellaneous chemical composition of metallurgical materials causes real problem for preparation of the samples that are analyzed. Pre-preparation of samples will prolong time of analysis, but the interpretation of results will be easier at the same time. In metallurgical laboratories are analyzed iron-ore materials (e.g. raw materials and semi-products) and refractories mainly and for that reason CRM materials based on iron, silicon and aluminum oxides were selected for the testing procedure of these software programs. Semi-quantitative X-ray analysis can be applied in determination of the main component concentrations in samples for which not many CRM materials exist, for example blast furnace sludges, dusts, etc.
