INFLUENCE OF SLAB TEMPERATURE TO ADHESION OF FURNACE SCALES
Abstract
Detection of slab temperature influence on removing of furnace scales of heated materials surface was analyzed. Important aspect of surface quality assurance to final product is selection of regular temperatures. Inconvenient selection of heating temperatures may cause that the slab exit from the furnace and sequential high pressure water jet results in an imperfect remove of scales from surface and decline of surface quality. Frequency of surface and subsurface defects on input material has an influence on imperfect descaling. Composition of furnace atmosphere affects material heating and formation of oxide layers, too. These oxide layers can be very compacted, adhesive and hardly removable.
Removing the scales from surface has become a complicated process.
In experimental part there is condition monitoring of scales removing behind horizontal scalebraker by camera system and subsequent statistical analyzis by means of comparative histograms. Influence of set-in temperature, drawing-out temperature and chemical composition on descaling furnace scales was statistically analyzed. As experimental materials were used deep-drawing steel (marked as EN10202/01) and low carbon steel specified for electrical engineering (marked as EN 10106/95). Chemical composition of EN10202/01 steel was C 0,047; Mn 0,35; Si 0,03; P 0,02; S 0,015; Al 0,45; N 0.0105. Chemical composition of EN10106/95 steel was C 0,0074; Mn 0,3255; Si 1,3255; P 0,06; S 0,009; Al 0,35; N 0,007. Owing to the confirmation of results from statistical analyzis was realized by optical microscopy, REM and EDX analyzis with evaluation of possible influence on partial separation of oxide layers. Samples were observed by light microscope Olympus GX – 71 with digital scanning system Olympus DP – 12.
In the conclusion recommendations there are references and results presented in three points.
