GOLD AND SILVER EXTRACTION FROM THIOUREA SOLUTIONS BY SYNERGISTIC EFFECT BETWEEN AMINE AND ORGANOPHOSPHATE ORGANIC MATTER
Abstract
Liquid extraction is a possible method for extraction of precious metals from thiourea solutions. This method utilizes perfect contact of two non-soluble liquids, materials transfer from one phase to another and the separation of unmiscible phases.
There is a certain organic matter for every metal element at which the distribution ratio is the highest. The composition of system at this case is well-known as maximum synergistic effect.
Presented work is aimed at gold extraction study from thiourea solutions with the mixed organic matter (amine and organophosphate) application.
The synthetic solution was used for experimental study of liquid extraction from thiourea solutions, as the organic matters were used tributylphosphate (TBP) as neutral organophosphate matter, primary amine (PRIMENE JM) and n-octyl as solvent.
pH of water phase influence on gold extraction has been studied. At pH = 3,8 the value of distribution ratio was relativly high 29,65.
Maximum sinergistic effect between TBP and PRIMENE JM was achieved at mutual ratio 5 vol.% TBP, 5 vol.% PRIMENE JM and 90 vol.% n-octyl.
Silver extraction with TBP and PRIMENE JM at pH =3,8 showed 55,85% efficiency and distribution ratio was 1,26.
Practical experiments show that at pH = 3,8 there is an excelent gold extraction but the extraction of iron is very low. The highest distribution ratio for iron was 1,6.
The experimental results showed that mix of 5 vol.% of PRIMENE JM and 5 vol.% TBP in 90 vol.% n-octyl is advisable for liquid extraction of gold from thiourea solutions: EAu=96%, DAu=24. Extraction of silver at the same conditions was characterized as follow: EAg=55,8%, DAg=1,26.
The iron extraction influence on gold extraction was studied also. The experimental results showed that at pH=3,8 when DAu=29,65, extraction of iron is near to zero, what is very advantageous in the case of selective extraction of gold.
