LIQUID EXTRACTION OF GOLD FROM THIOUREA SOLUTION
Abstract
At the present time there are several methods (cementation, electrolytical precipitation, adsorption on active carbon, ion sorption and liquid extraction) for gold precipitation from thiourea solutions.
Present paper is aimed at gold precipitation from thiourea solutions study by diethylhexyl phosphoric acid (DEHPA) and tributylphosphate (TBP).
Synthetic solution as well as real thiourea leachate solution has been used to study the liquid extraction of precious metals from acidic thiourea solutions produced by Hodrusa's concentrate leaching.
Experimental results showed the extraction of gold by DEHPA as possible, distribution ratio attained values from 0,102 to 5,24. Maximum value was achieved at 50 vol.% DEHPA and 50 vol.% benzene.
The maximum distribution ratio for TBP was 1,74 at the same conditions. The additional extraction of organic matter in organic phase is capable to increase distribution ratio. There are definite mixed organic matters for every metals element when distribution ratio has the maximum value - maximum synergistic effect.
DEHPA and TBP were used for investigation of maximum synergistic effect in different ratios. Maximum synergistic effect of 36,5 was achieved at ratio DEHPA : TBP = 1 : 1.
Reverse extraction (stripping) by HCl was studied, the best molarity concentration was specified as 2 M HCl. Following experiments showed that the best experimental extraction results were achieved at ratio organic vs. aquatic phases O : A = 1 : 1.
The maximum distribution ratio achieved with the real Hodrusa's concentrate was 8,54.
Presented experimental work was aimed at study of influence of different factors on gold extraction from thiourea solutions and it contains results in the several spheres:
The selection of advisable ratio between DEHPA and TBP, to achieve the maximum synergistic effect.
The study of extraction of gold by the mix organic matter with different ratio of two phases volumes (organic vs. aquatic).
The composition of organic phase influence study on gold extraction from thiourea solutions.
