Abstract
The paper describes general characteristies of the surface defects creation processes present in continuous steel cast strands and the methods of their reduction. The paper also presents the most important physical and chemical properties of the lubricating and insulting casting powders offered in Poland as well as some results of the author's investigations, which verify the casting powders properties presented in trade offers.
