METAL EVAPORATION FROM LIQUID ALLOYS
Abstract
In the article it has been discussed the kinetics of metal evaporation processes from liquid alloys.
The influence of following factors such as : pressure , bath composition and the kind of gaseous atmosphere on the process rate has been determined.
It has been showed that:
* in the metallurgical process the pressure lowering leads to increasing the evaporation of metals.Simultaneously follows a change of step which limits an evaporation process. The mass transfer resistance in the gaseous phase decreases and the liquid phase resistance , and sometimes the evaporation , becomes decisive.
* the increase of oxygen contents in the metal bath can block the evaporation prcess by decreasing the surface tension as well as by composing of blocking metal oxide layer on the bath surface. At the same time oxygen can increase the evaporation process when volatile compounds of metal oxide having bigger equilibrium pressure than the metal vapour pressure are creating.
* in the evaporation process taking place in an inert or reducing atmosphere its rate depends on the factor of metal vapour diffusion.
